Carly Says, "Don't Eat it!"

As was written in an earlier post, Carly is quite the natural comedienne. She's got a knack for timing and an abstract sense of humor beyond her years. Many times, she'll just crack herself up. Such was the case with "Don't eat it."

Carly started out the door and onto the porch. She waited for me there as usual, but today something new caught her eye. It was a smooth, semi-translucent, purplish stone. This was different than the usual garden stones she muses over daily. This was a STONE. She pointed it out, stooped over and picked it up, all the while shouting, "Look at that rock Daddy!" After excitedly agreeing that she had a bona fide treasure, she cocked her head to one side while studying the rock and started the action of tasting it. I quickly said, "Don't eat the rock Carly." To which she replied, "Don't eat the rock Daddy!" I chuckled a little and she ceased from sampling the thing. As we moved closer to the truck she jibed, "Don't eat the truck Daddy!" Of course I had to laugh, and that's all she needed. After taking a Memory Mate flash card out of her pocket and chiming "Don't eat the card Daddy," she picked up a twig, suggested she was about to eat it and giggled, "Don't eat the stick Daddy!" For the next five minutes she was nearly falling over with laughter as she proclaimed that nearly nothing on earth (or at least identifiably close) should be eaten by Daddy, one by one.
